Thoughts and observations of a 2nd generation family business specialist
One of the most interesting nuances of the work I do professionally is that it is the same type of work my father has been doing for the last 25 years. We work with family businesses, family offices, and the advisors that serve these two groups. We focus on family dynamics, communication principles, personal identity creation, legacy development, and working relationships between family and non-family members. My entire life in many ways has led me to this field, the concepts I discuss here have been an integral part of my own upbringing.
Recently I was asked to discuss my views of peership (in relation to my father) in order to compare with my father’s views. I realized while offering my opinion the incredible opportunity I have to communicate directly to the Next Generation of Family Business Owners or Inheritors of Wealth. I thought rather than give a text book definition of each concept we teach to families I could discuss my first hand experience with each concept as a next generation family business specialist. I hope you enjoy.
Best Regards
Jonathan
